  2. MAILING LIST HELP FILE

  4. Please read the list guidelines (see below) before engaging in discussion. 
  5. In addition, familiarize yourself with how the list operates, especially if 
  6. you've never participated in an Internet email discussion group before.  
  7. It's a good idea to save this message somewhere so you know how to 
  8. unsubscribe.
  9.  
  10. When dealing with a listserver, there are two types of messages, namely,  
  11. COMMANDS and POSTS. Unlike traditional listservers which require the 
  12. use of numerous email addresses, we have simplified the process by 
  13. allowing for both both COMMANDS and POSTS to be sent to the same address.

  15. COMMANDS 
  16.  
  17. These e-mail messages are intended to cause some action to occur, such as
  18. subscribing the FROM address to a mailing list.  Commands are usually one or
  19. two word phrases which should be entered in the SUBJECT field of the message. 
  20. Any other fields are ignored... it doesn't matter what you put in them.  On this list,
  21. subscribe commands are sent to a moderator for approval.

  23. The following commands are accepted:

  25. subscribe
  26.     forwards your request to a moderator for approval
  27.     you will then receive all posts as they are received
  28.     you are then allowed to post from that address
  29.  
  30. unsubscribe
  31.     removes your e-mail address from the list of subscribers
  32.     you will no longer receive any posts
  33.     you are no longer allowed to post
  34.  
  35. subscribe digest
  36.     switches you to digest mode
  37.     you will then receive one message per day which lists all posts
  38.     to switch back, send a "subscribe" command
  39.     
  40. digests
  41.     returns a list of digests for the past 30 days along with 
  42.     instructions for retreiving them via e-mail
  43.  
  44. help
  45.     this message will be returned

  48. POSTS

  50. Email messages which don't match any commands are distributed to everyone on the list. 
  51. Every time you post a message, hundreds of other people on the list receive a
  52. copy, just as if you sent it to them personally.  As a member of the list, you
  53. will receive a copy of every message anyone else sends.  On this list, only
  54. members of the list can post to it.
